my gf is pregnant and i want a paternity test done when she gives birth. How long does it normally take for test results from a doctor? and or would i be better off getting a home paternity test and mailing it out? i hear that takes 2 weeks or so?
It is better to have it done at the time of the birth, and can take a few days. Most of the time delay involving sending it to a lab at a hospital for testing. Don’t sign the BC until you have the results. Tell the mother that 30% of the tests come back negative, so all men need to be checking. You can do the test now, safely, however it can be expensive.
If the child is yours, you are responsible to pay child support, however you have no legal rights to see the child until the court grant it. Also, anything given or paid her is not support, it is a gift. These links will teach you your rights.
