    Should I get a D & C or Miscarry Naturally?
Well I’ve had a roller coaster of a pregnancy so far! I should be about 7 weeks pregnant. I went in for a scan at 5 weeks and could see the sac but no yolk or bean pole. Went in a couple days later because I started spotting and saw a little bit of the yolk sac and a faint bean pole. By five weeks I had taken 4 HCG tests within a couple days of each other. The tests did not double as they were supposed to, but continued to rise at about 20%. I continued to spot for 6 days straight. Then I had a doctors appointment. My doctor came in telling me that I was micarrying and preparing me for what to expect. Then she took an ultrasound and I was delighted to see a very strong heart beat.

So now a week later I went back to the doctor to make sure everything was ok. We did another u/s and there was no longer any heart beat.

Now I don’t know what to do. I have done a lot of research and have stumbled upon a website called misdiagnosed miscarriages which had several stories about women that saw a heartbeat and then didn’t and then saw the heart beat again within a couple of weeks. I don’t want to accidentally terminate a viable pregnancy. However, I am often home alone and I hear that passing a miscarriage naturally can cause infection or other complications and I am scared to pass it alone. I also heard that a D & C can cause scarring that could lead to infertility. I am so torn – should I get the D&C and move on, or should I hope for a miracle and wait to pass it naturally?

You may have experienced a fetal demise but it should naturally and spontaneously abort by itself.
I am sorry to hear this but it does happen quite often.
A D&C procedure will force the Cervix open and may cause further damage to it and the uterine lining.

I had a d & c with my miscarriage. Thinking back on it, if I hadn’t been so shocked and scared, I would never have done it. I always wonder, what if I was misdiagnosed. If I had to do it over again, I would have let nature take its course.

The d & c was simple and I was able to conceive after, but my heart and mind still think I should not have done it.

I think that you should give it a little while before you have a d&c just to give it a little more time to either happen on its own or possibly have another ultrasound and see if by chance they missed something the last time.. maybe give it a week or so just in case. Good luck! I will be praying for a miracle for you!

I had a natural miscarriage in july and got pregnant again in sept. It was my first miscarriage and I lost my baby @ 10weeks. I passed every thing that night wihtout any medications or D&C. I bleed for 10 days and after that everything was fine and I got my first period aug. 18 it was normal the next month I found out that I was pregnant.

The D&C won’t be what helps you "move on," and you don’t have to hope for a miracle to pass the baby naturally.

Nature takes its course in its own way, and they only scare you with stuff like infection possibilities so that you’ll do the D&C, and let the doctor get a fee for it. Actually, it’s the D&C that has the higher infection rate, since there’s a chance something could be left inside your body.

Wait up to a month, and see if everything goes normally. Call a few friends and find someone who would be able to come to your home at a moment’s notice if you really don’t want to be alone.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

I had a natural miscarriage. I never heard that about them being misdiagnosed but I just didnt want to force the baby out. I felt it would go in it’s own time and it would be a better chance for me to cope rather than have it removed. It took about 48-36 hours of severe cramping on and off, like contractions then the sac passed painlessly. I bled for a while. If you go naturally just be prepared for pain and no pain killers worked for me because i was vomitting and pooing(sorri if tmi) like my body was trying to expel everything. But I think emotionally I made the right choice. I have no regrets or what ifs and I know it was just nature, nothing I did.

I have heard of several women who had natural miscarriages and were extremely fertile after. Me included. First month we decided we were ready I was pregnant and still am

I would get a second opinion before a D&C. I miscarried at 11.5 weeks but my body didn’t miscarry and I found out when I was 17.5 weeks. By 19 weeks of nothing my doctor found a serious infection that was supposed to take my fertility because of the damage to my uterus.

Plenty of women had D&C’s and continue to have healthy babies, after my D&C I conceived my baby I have now is healthy as can be. I chose to get a second opinion because I too read the information on those sites and had hope. While it did help me realize my baby was gone, it hurt to relive it over again because I had so much hope everything was going to be ok. I think you should talk to your doctor first and see what she says.
